AmCham: US sanctions bill against 35 Russian tops may fall apart

MOSCOW, Sep 23 (PRIME) -- The bill on the U.S. sanctions against 35 prominent Russians may not be passed, and the final decision to impose the sanctions will be made by the executive branch, Russia–U.S. Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) head Alexis Rodzianko told PRIME on Thursday.

“This is a bill, not yet a law… Even if it is adopted with this list of recommendations, the executive branch decides whether or not to impose sanctions,” Rodzianko said.

The process may take long, or even fall apart, he added.

A committee of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress drafted a bill on sanctions against Russia’s most prominent politicians, businessmen and media persons. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the Federal Security Service’s Director Alexander Bortnikov, the National Guard’s Director Viktor Zolotov, the Investigative Committee’s head Alexander Bastrykin, Healthcare Minister Mikhail Murashko, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin and several others are on the list.
